About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically accomplished Sales Engineer to drive the technical sales of Modius OpenData across enterprise, colocation, and hyperscale data center markets. In this role, you will serve as the primary technical resource for the field sales team, owning product demonstrations, solution architecture, and pre-sales engineering throughout the full sales cycle. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in data center infrastructure, DCIM platforms, and operational technology, combined with a passion for AI-driven analytics and a talent for translating complex technical capabilities into compelling business value. You will partner closely with Enterprise Account Executives and collaborate across product, engineering, and customer success to ensure prospects clearly understand how Modius solves their most critical infrastructure challenges. This role requires a strong background in data center operations or infrastructure software pre-sales, deep knowledge of the DCIM and OT/IT convergence landscape, and the ability to build trusted relationships with technical stakeholders while engaging effectively at the executive level.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Enterprise Account Executives to understand prospect requirements and architect Modius OpenData solutions that address their unique data center monitoring, management, and optimization needs.
- Design and deliver compelling, customized product demonstrations that highlight AI-driven analytics, real-time infrastructure visibility, energy efficiency insights, and capacity planning capabilities.
- Develop and present technical proposals including solution architecture diagrams, integration strategies, deployment plans, and ROI models.
- Lead proof-of-concept engagements, scoping technical requirements, managing timelines, and ensuring successful outcomes that accelerate deal progression.
- Respond to RFPs, RFIs, and security questionnaires with technically accurate, differentiated content.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor throughout the sales cycle, providing guidance on best practices for DCIM implementation, OT/IT integration, PUE optimization, asset lifecycle management, and AI-powered anomaly detection.
- Build and maintain strong technical relationships with data center engineers, IT architects, facilities managers, and infrastructure leaders across target accounts.
- Address customer concerns and navigate complex technical evaluations involving procurement, security, compliance, and executive stakeholders.
- Conduct discovery calls and on-site assessments to develop a deep understanding of each prospect’s infrastructure environment and strategic objectives.
- Partner closely with the sales team to develop account strategies, win plans, and competitive positioning tailored to each opportunity.
- Stay current with industry trends including AI/ML in infrastructure management, emerging DCIM standards, sustainability and carbon reporting frameworks, and the competitive landscape, to effectively position Modius solutions.
- Provide structured feedback to Product Management on customer requirements, feature requests, and market trends to influence the Modius product roadmap.
- Represent Modius at industry events, trade shows (e.g., Data Center World, DCD, Gartner IT Symposium), and webinars to promote Modius solutions and establish thought leadership in the DCIM and AI analytics space.
- Support and drive sales activity in partnership with Account Executives to consistently over-achieve revenue targets.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in a sales engineering or technical pre-sales role, with a focus on data center infrastructure, DCIM, BMS/BAS, or operational technology software.
- Strong understanding of data center operations including power systems (UPS, PDU, CRAC/CRAH), network infrastructure, environmental monitoring, capacity planning, and energy efficiency metrics (PUE, DCiE).
- Hands-on experience with DCIM platforms, SCADA/BMS systems, or OT/IT integration technologies and protocols (SNMP, Modbus, BACnet, IPMI, or equivalent).
- Practical familiarity with AI/ML concepts as applied to infrastructure analytics, anomaly detection, and predictive maintenance.
- Proven ability to design and deliver polished, differentiated technical demonstrations and solution architectures to both technical and executive audiences.
- Experience managing complex technical evaluations, proof-of-concept engagements, and RFP/RFI responses.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, comfortable translating deep technical concepts for data center engineers and C-suite audiences alike.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and capable of operating effectively in a high-growth, fast-moving environment.
- Willingness to travel as needed to support sales activities, site assessments, and customer engagements.
Required Skills
- Deep understanding of data center infrastructure: power (UPS, PDU, generators), cooling (CRAC/CRAH, chillers), network, and environmental monitoring systems.
- Hands-on familiarity with DCIM platforms, BMS/BAS systems, and OT protocols (SNMP, Modbus, BACnet, IPMI) and how they integrate with IT systems.
- Ability to design and articulate multi-system integration architectures tailored to each prospect’s environment.
- Comfortable engaging at depth with data center engineers, IT architects, and facilities teams, and translating those conversations for CIOs, CFOs, and VP-level decision-makers.
Preferred Skills
- Existing knowledge of or relationships within the DCIM, colocation, or hyperscale data center ecosystem.
- Experience with partner/channel sales motions including TSD/TSBs, OEMs, MSPs, or Resellers in the data center space.
- Relevant certifications such as CDCP, CDCS, DCEP, or vendor certifications from Schneider Electric, Vertiv, ABB, Siemens, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with sustainability frameworks, carbon reporting standards, and data center efficiency regulations driving DCIM adoption.
